Description
Split Pins
Split pins are frequently used to secure other fasteners, e.g. clevis pins. A common application of this is when used to secure a castellated nut inserted, the two ends of the pin are bent apart, locking it in place.
Note:
Split pins are used in machine construction and automotive engineering as retainingelements. They are often used for securing castle nuts. After the split pin is pushedthrough a hole, the ends are bent over to ensure a secure lock split pin can be shortened. As a rule, the split pin should be roughly double thelength of the hole the material structure can weaken through bending and straightening, the splitpins should not be reused after they have been removed from the hole.
