Drinking puer tea is purported to aid in digestion and to reduce blood cholesterol and lipid levels. It is also widely believed in Chinese cultures to counteract the unpleasant effects of heavy alcohol consumption. In traditional Chinese medicine, the tea is believed to invigorate the spleen and inhibit “dampness.” In the stomach, it is believed to reduce heat and “descends qi”. Puer tea is rich in flavonoids which are particularly beneficial in fighting against infection and maintaining capillary walls in human circulatory system. Puer has been introduced to the west though primarily due to it’s reputed weight loss benefits – stimulating the metabolism and making the body burn fat and calories more efficiently resulting in weight loss through regular consumption.
