Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Descaler is safe for use on automatic drip coffee makers, single-cup coffee makers, and espresso machines. Use descaling solution regularly to remove build-up that can harm the heating element in your machine and ruin the taste of your coffee. For best results, use BKF Coffee Maker Cleaner before descaling. Read your machine’s manufacturer instructions before using coffee cleaner and descaler. Cover marble, granite, or other natural stone counter surfaces to protect them from possible descaling solution spills or splashes. Wear protective gloves. For single-cup coffee machines, remove disposable pod and unplug machine before cleaning, allowing water in reservoir to cool before emptying. Fill the coffee maker reservoir with cold water, adding 1 ounce of Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Descaler for every 8 ounces of water. Place a cup under the discharge spout and run the brew cycle until reservoir is empty. Make sure no cleaning solution remains in the machine or reservoir, and run fresh water through your machine before making coffee. For espresso machines and automatic drip coffee makers, use the same 8:1 descaling solution-water ratio to fill the reservoir, and run the brew cycle. Allow the descaling solution to sit in the carafe for a few minutes. Empty and rinse the carafe, fill with cold water only, and repeat the brew cycle. Empty and rinse the carafe again before brewing coffee. Repeat the descaling and cleaning process monthly (or sooner, if hard water deposits dictate).
