It allows you to smooth the seal that has just been laid out in a clean and even way, for a particularly neat finish. It also provides the same thickness of seal over the entire length of the joint. Simply use the straightener directly after the seal is applied without waiting for it to dry. Moisten if necessary with water (possibly soap) for easier smoothing
