This replacement biological sponge foam is very easy to remove and replace. This should be done on a regular basis where you feel your old sponge’s quality has either deteriorated or is just overloaded with fish waste.
When maintaining the filter and thus cleaning the sponges, please ensure your using some aquarium water to do so in order to maintain the friendly bacteria cultivating on the sponge. Using fresh tap water may kill these important bacteria which help break down nitrites and nitrates. Having a negative impact on the nitrogen cycle leading to an increase of ammonia in your aquarium which could harm your livestock.
Using a biological enhancer/ booster may help in reintroducing these friendly bacteria back into your aquarium if needed.
Research shows that you should test your water quality Weekly, so it is important to test the water parameters of your Aquarium (using our test kits) regularly to keep the water clean. This would give you an indication of how often the sponge needs to be rinsed or replaced.
