As with all types of machinery, document/paper shredders will not operate efficiently unless properly maintained and, depending on the brand, may invalidate any warranty you may have for your unit. The most effective way to care for a paper shredder is to oil it on a regular basis. The amount you lubricate your shredder will depend on how often you shred, but as a guide, we would suggest at least once every 2 to 3 weeks for normal use.
Shredding produces a surprising amount of paper dust which builds up inside the cutting assembly and without frequent oiling, the accumulated detritus compacts putting strain on the cutters, motor gears and bearings. Failing to oil a shredder will inevitably reduce its lifetime.
The Swordfish Shredder Oil Bottle should last for approx. 30 top-ups and can be used on all types of paper shredder including strip-cut, diamond-cut, cross-cut and micro-cut machines.
