Description

A turning center is a tool that has been ground to a precise point to position a part on an axis. It has an included angle of 60 °. The main use of a center is to ensure that the work is concentric; this allows the part to be transferred between machining operations without loss of Accuracy. A workpiece can be turned in a lathe, sent for hardening and tempering, and then grind between centers in a cylindrical mill. A center is also used to support longer parts where cutting forces excessively deform the work, reducing the workpiece’s finish and accuracy.
