Protect your solid fertiliser. Solid fertilisers placed on the soil surface have a habit of being blown off or being knocked off by insects, dogs, or other interested creatures. Use fertiliser baskets to keep your Biogold , rape seed pellets or other slow-release solid bonsai feeds in place, while allowing rain to slowly dissolve them. These large baskets with a spike have a compartment to put the feed into and a spike to secure them to the soil.
