Description

Damar Chewing Rubber comes from Sumatra and Borneo (Indonesia). The chewing gum is the frozen essudation of Damar trees and presents itself in light yellow/ivory granules, slightly crumbling and with a pleasant odour. Damar Chewing Rubber is notoriously used in the area of restoration and art in the production of final coats to protect the paintings, mix them with turpentine essence, raw flax oil, etc. White Spirit, aromatic solvent and turpentine. In order to obtain a more transparent varnish, it is advisable to dissolve the resin in lukewarm solvents. The addition of alcohol results in the accumulation of wax-like residues in the resin (about 15%). Damar has good adhesion and low acidity.
