The JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) program was launched to develop a new fifth-generation multi-purpose fighter jet capable of being a valid alternative to ground attack aircraft of the United States and NATO countries. From this project came the single-seat Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft. Equipped with exceptional technology, it is characterised by the use of an aerodynamic configuration with stealth properties and a trapezoidal wing. Designed for air superiority missions, close support and ground attacks, its hull can be adjusted in various configurations. The F-35A operates on conventional runways, the F-35B is designed for vertical take-off and landing, and the F-35C is ideal for use with conventional aircraft carriers. Specifically, the F-35C is characterised by its folding wing ends to optimise on-board storage, a catch hook and a reinforced bow landing gear suitable for catapult launches of US Navy aircraft carriers.
